Private Function Video/DVD Licences

Acting as an agent on behalf of Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL), the APV is able to issue licences for the dubbing of audio recordings onto video tapes and DVDs of Weddings, Christenings, Bar Mitzvahs, Anniversaries and other similar family, domestic & private functions/events. This covers the UK only and is providing the produced product shall not be sold (other than to family members and/or participants of the private function). The PPL Licence does not cover products that will be commercially exploited in any way, this includes; Video or DVD commercial releases, broadcast or inclusion in a cable programme.

The granting of a licence is subject to a series of supplied terms and conditions and payment of the appropriate licence fees to the APV.

The licence does not limit the number of sound recordings to be dubbed and covers both music edited post production (eg: bride & grooms favourite song) or picked up incidentally (eg: from a disco). However it must also be stressed that the PPL licence covers recorded audio, not live performances.

No distinction is made between a video tape/DVD master and a copy.

The cost of a Private Function Video/DVD dubbing licence is £4.00 per sticker, subject to a minimum purchase of 5 stickers with an issued licence. The quantity of tapes or DVDs produced is simply multiplied by £4.00. Therefore the minimum licence fee based on a quantity of 5 units is £20.00. This must be issued as a single transaction. There is currently no upper limit.

Whilst the licence provided with the stickers is dated and valid for one year from the date of issue. The security stickers are not dated so can be purchased in quantity and can be attached to a case rather than the tape or DVD itself.
