Qualifications

In order to become APV qualified, members had to undertake and pass our stringent APV assessment process. This scheme had two main objectives:

  • To provide a measurement to assure potential clients they are dealing with competent video professionals who have achieved a recognisable standard of work.
  • To help raise and maintain professional standards within the industry.

Only qualified APV members who have undertaken assessment and been awarded an APV Certificate, Diploma or Award of Excellence can use the APV logo in their advertising, the relevant APV post-nominal title (letters after their name) and be included in our search engine. An APV qualification meant the central APV office can confidently refer job enquiries to the member.

The Assessment Process

APV Assessment required members to submit one or more examples of their recent work (dependant on level of assessment), which was then viewed and marked by an individual assessor or appointed panel of assessors.
There were three award levels within the programme, the entry level was the APV Certificate. Following a Certificate a member could go further and submit work for the APV Diploma or Award of Excellence qualifications, which were increasingly complex. The qualifications system catered for two specific streams and each award is available in either ‘Wedding/Event’ or ‘Corporate/Commercial’ categories. Members could apply for assessment leading to awards in one or both categories; however each individual assessment had to have a unique piece of work submitted.

Certificate: This was the minimum level of assessment of competence in the art of video film making. If a member achieved the required pass mark a Certificate was awarded and they were eligible for the work referral scheme and inclusion in the on-line search engine on the web site.

Diploma: This award represented a significantly higher standard of proficiency in video production. In turn this may relate to higher prices charged for a Videomakers services, particularly in the wedding and events market.

Award of Excellence: This prestigious award represented the pinnacle of our qualification and grading system. The assessors  expected to see nearly faultless and polished video production together with wide knowledge and experience in all aspects of the craft. However, although the video would be very professionally and competently constructed we did not necessarily expect the resources that a very large budget or broadcast programme could call upon and this wias always taken into consideration.

All qualified members may use the preferred logo and the legend “Qualified Member of the Association of Professional Videomakers”. There are also alternate descriptions for the Diploma and Award of Excellence qualified members.
As members achieve the various awards they may, if they wish, use post-nominal titles representing that achievement.

  • APV(Cert.) for a Certificate
  • APV(Dip.) for a Diploma
  • APV(Award of Ex.) for the Award of Excellence.

A member must pass a certificate in the wedding video category before they were be included on the wedding referrals lists.
All qualified members must agree to abide by the APV Code of Practice.
